Martin Puryear

To be completely honest, his work doesn’t really appeal to me. However, I do relate to his organic forms, but that’s about as far as it goes. To me this work doesn’t compare to that of Kendal Buster. I don’t understand his work, nor does it speak to me.  I guess the only thing that is interesting me is the mystery in the objects. It makes me ask questions in what was the point of these pieces. The forms an objects aren’t recognizable to the human eye, maybe that’s what is so confusing about them. They cause a void between what my eyes sees, and what my brain sees. It is hard for me to interpret what I think I am seeing.

New Chair Ideas

I chose to reflect the relationship between my sister and I. I wanted to add a seat for her as well with in this chair. I have the two sides facing opposite directions because we live in two different states, and are going into different directions, but we are still connected. I am very excited to see my design play out.

Essay On Duality

My sister, Challey, is my best friend. We used to hate each other. We are three years apart so you can imagine that high school wasn’t the best time for two growing girls to get along. As soon as she moved to college, we started to get close again.  She is the most caring, hardworking person I have ever met. She is always willing to please, and help the people around her. My sister is so loyal that she held her first job for seven years and eventually became the assistant manager.
After high school I decided to move to California. It was a turning point in my life and she was there for me every step of the way.  Eventually we couldn’t stand to be apart from each other so she decided to move to California with me.  We where then living together under the same roof for the first time in three years. Of course we fought but only in a way that sisters do. We always made up a few minutes later.
My sister always knows how to have fun, and make the best of every situation. She is the craziest, and yet most responsible person I know.  I would do anything for her, and I know she would too.  Once when we were kids she wanted a dog so bad that she wrote a petition and had the whole neighborhood sign it. Needless to say we went looking for a new a dog shortly after. We had that dog for twelve years.  Now my sister is still currently living in California, while I am back in Kansas finishing school. My goal is to live at least live in the same state with her once again in the future.

Cardboard Chair!

Now looking at the final chair Ive realized that I have only made a box!
Furniture design is definitely harder than I thought
